|Drake G. Behrakis
Drake G. Behrakis, a member of the Leadership 100 Board of Trustees and a 1986 graduate of Boston College, was presented with the William V. McKenney Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Alumni Association of the University, at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel on June 4, 2015.
Behrakis was one of six recipients at a ceremony led by William P. Leahy, S.J., Boston College President and the Board of Trustees and Alumni Association.
Created in 1936 and named in honor of its first recipient, the William V. McKenney Award recognizes a Boston College graduate “whose outstanding service to a chosen profession, community or cause reflects honor on the University.”
Behrakis is President of Marwick Associates, a real estate investment and development company located in Lexington, Mass. Marwick is the real estate arm of a family owned, privately held investment company. Behrakis is also active in the Behrakis Foundation, the family’s philanthropic vehicle.
Prior to establishing Marwick, Behrakis held various positions with Muro Pharmaceutical Inc. and the Gillette Company.
Behrakis has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University. Besides Leadership 100, he serves on the Boards of Boston College and the Hellenic Initiative. He is also on the Board of Overseers at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and serves on the Fordham University Orthodox Christian Studies Center Advisory Council. He is an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Order of Saint Andrew.
In 2002, Behrakis established the Maria E. and Drake G. Behrakis ’86 Fellowship for Study in Greece Fund at Boston College. In 2007, he sponsored the Behrakis Family Classical Studies Symposium and, in 2011, the Behrakis Professor in Hellenic Political Studies Fund.
Behrakis’ engagement as both a volunteer and as a donor to Boston College has expanded throughout the years. He served as co-chair of his 20th and 25th reunion gift committees and has supported Pops on the Heights and the Wall Street Council Tribute Dinner. He volunteers time to the senior class gift committee challenge, serves on the buildings and properties and university advancement committees as a member of the Board of Trustees, chairs the Hellenic Alumni Network Affinity Group; and is a Flynn Fund member.
Behrakis resides with his wife, Maria, and three children, George, Zoe, and Demetri, in Sudbury, Mass.
